The Old Jeweish Cemetery:
is one of the famous spots in Prague, if you have liked the Olsany cemetery in the vicinity of the Agricola. During more than 300 years, the Jewish would be buried here, even though there was not enough space: bodies has do be piled up, till reaching 12. Among the famous tombs, the most famous is that of Rabin Löw, who died in 1609. The Cemetery was opened in 1478 and most of its medieval structure still remains. Hendela Bassevi`s tomb is one of the most ornamented. It belongs to the beautiful wife of the first Jewish noble in Prague. Writer and astronomer David Gans is also buried here, as well as Mordechai Meisel, who was mayor to the Jewish district in Prague. |
