Travelling by Metro in Prague
Fast, efficient, and easy to use the Prague metro network consists of about 50 km of tracks connecting the city centre and out-lying districts and carries around 400 million passengers a year.
The 3 metro lines are designated by letters and different colours:
Line A (Green) - running east to west from Skalka station to Dejvická station
Line B (Yellow) - running east to west from Cerný most station to Zlicín station
Line C (Red) - running north to south from Nádralí Holeaovice to Háje station
with 3 interchange stations where transfer from one line to another:
Mustek station (lower end of Wenceslas Square) - lines A and B
Muzeum station (upper end of Wenceslas Square) - lines A and C
Florenc station (main bus station) - lines B and C
Metro operates daily from 5:00 am to midnight and frequency of trains is 2-3 minutes during peak working hours and 4-10 minutes during off-peak hours. Before boarding the vehicle passengers have to validate their tickets which can be bought at selected metro stations, newsstands, travel offices, department stores, and some information centres. Single tickets can also be bought at ticket vending machines which are installed at all metro stations and at surface transport.
